Peter Obi’s Success In Anambra Was Built on My Foundations – Chris Ngige
Former Anambra State governor and ex-Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, has stirred political conversation after claiming that many of Peter Obi’s widely praised achievements as governor were built on reforms he had already set in motion.
In a recent interview, Ngige said his administration from 2003 to mid-2006 laid the foundation for improvements in education, healthcare, and public service — reforms that Obi merely continued.
“I had sealed everything, started the ball, and passed it to him; he just put it into the net,” Ngige said. “The evaluation done on education was during my years as governor — 2004, 2005, and the first half of 2006.”
Ngige clarified that he was not seeking to ignite political controversy or attack Obi, stressing that unlike Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s criticisms, his comments were meant as recognition of Obi’s ability to consolidate existing policies.

“I’m not attacking Obi. He did well as governor in my state because he followed my footsteps and consolidated on what I was doing. Most of those things were not his original ideas,” he added.
The former governor also praised Obi’s fiscal prudence, commending him for channeling funds into meaningful projects and leaving financial reserves for his successor, Willie Obiano — just as Ngige claimed he had done for Obi.

“He didn’t waste our money; he put it into good use. He left money for Obiano, and I left money for him too,” Ngige noted.
A video of the interview, now circulating online, shows Ngige repeating that Obi’s administration was on “cruise control” thanks to policies already in motion before he left office.
