Students in a Uyo classroom are purportedly seen smoking cannabis in a viral video.
A video of pupils smoking what looked to be cannabis in a classroom at a secondary school in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has gone viral online, raising concerns about drug misuse and discipline in Nigerian schools.
Concerns about discipline and substance usage in schools have been raised by a widely shared video that purportedly shows a secondary student smoking and acting out in a Uyo classroom.
The video, which went viral on social media on Monday, depicts about ten male and one female student smoking, dancing, and chanting to music in an empty classroom while wearing red and white school uniforms.

Online comments to the video were substantial, with many readers voicing concern over the apparent lack of oversight and discipline in public institutions.
One reviewer stated that “the decay in some public schools needs urgent attention” and urged a return to more stringent disciplinary standards, among other calls for tougher regulations.
Concerns regarding drug addiction among young people in Nigeria have been rekindled by the occurrence, and schools are now viewed as essential locations for early intervention, counselling, and drug prevention initiatives.
