Mr Rufus Farotimi, the distraught father, has made an appeal to the relevant authorities in an effort to secure justice for his son.

Promise Farotimi, a 21-year-old 300-level Building Technology student at Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), was apparently asleep when a heavy-duty truck collided with a building.

The event took place at Oke-Ila in Aramoko-Ekiti on March 26, 2026.

Mr. Rufus Farotimi, the distraught father, has made an appeal to the relevant authorities in an effort to secure justice for his son.

In an interview with Hope Newspaper, the deceased’s father urged security services to apprehend the escaping truck driver and demand accountability from the business associated with the vehicle.

The anguished father said the accident had left him with nothing and called the loss of both his child and his house “devastating.”

He stated ;

“My son was the one k!lled, and I am the owner of the house. This accident has destroyed my house. I’ve lost my child and my shelter. I don’t even have clothes anymore; what I’m wearing was given to me by my younger brother,”

He claimed that while locals captured the driver’s assistance, also referred to as a “motor boy,” the driver escaped right away following the collision.

Waybills and other documentation found in the car at the scene, according to Farotimi, indicated that the truck was carrying natural gypsum and had a firm letterhead that identified the driver as Shuaibu Yusuf.

He bemoaned the fact that the driver is still at large three days after the tragedy, even though he acknowledged that police had removed his son’s body and started an inquiry.

He called on the corporation connected to the vehicle to accept responsibility and encouraged authorities to step up efforts to capture the culprit.

In his words,

“It has been three days, and no one has come to remove the vehicle. I am begging them to come and do what is necessary,”

Farotimi also lamented the poor condition of the road, characterizing it as a persistent risk exacerbated by heavy-duty vehicles speeding.

He continued ;

“This road is very bad and always busy with heavy-duty vehicles, and they are always speeding,”

Mrs Caroline Ogunleye, a neighbour and community leader, echoed his worries, characterizing the occurrence as avoidable and attributing it to careless driving and the worsening state of the road.

“Truck drivers are always speeding on this road, and the condition of the road makes it worse. Another accident even happened this morning after this incident.

Similar catastrophes had happened in the region, she recalled, including an accident three years prior that apparently killed two siblings.

Ogunleye warned that the increasing number of these accidents is concerning and urged businesses that operate heavy-duty vehicles to prioritise vehicle maintenance and hire qualified drivers.

She also urged the government to implement policies to control traffic and reduce speeding, as well as to immediately repair the abandoned road project.

She stated ;

“The government also needs to repair this road and introduce measures to slow down vehicles. We cannot continue like this.”
