This morning, March 5, supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, gathered at the National Assembly Complex to stage a protest in her support.
However, the Nigeria Police Force dispersed the crowd using tear gas to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
The protesters had converged at the assembly gate around 8 am, ahead of the scheduled plenary and hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition.
The committee is set to discuss the allegations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Last Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio of maligning her in the Senate after she refused his sexual advances during a live TV interview.
The matter has been referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petition.
