Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cast doubt on his willingness to contest in the 2027 Nigerian presidential election.

Despite having run for the presidency a record six times, Atiku remains uncertain about his participation in the upcoming election.

In a recent interview on the television show “Untold Stories,” Atiku stated, “I don’t know because there has to be, first of all, a viable platform, more than any other time in the political history of this country, particularly since the return of democracy.”

This uncertainty comes as a surprise, given his camp’s previous insistence that he would continue to vie for the presidency.

Atiku’s remarks also highlighted his disappointment with Nigeria’s current political leadership.

He described the situation as “very dire” and expressed concern over the lack of improvement in governance at the state level. Additionally, he questioned the credibility of the current legislative leadership and alleged corruption within the National Assembly.

Atiku’s uncertainty about contesting in 2027 has sparked mixed reactions, particularly in light of his recent announcement to form a coalition of opposition leaders aimed at taking power from President Bola Tinubu’s APC in 2027.
