China has denied allegations made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that it is supplying weapons and gunpowder to Russia for its ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on its X handle, refuting the claims.
The ministry stated, “China is committed to realizing #UkraineCrisis ceasefire and talks for peace.
China has never provided lethal weapons to any party to the conflict, and has kept its dual-use exports under strict control.”
The statement added that Ukraine is aware that most of Russia’s imported military components came from the US and other Western countries.
Zelenskyy had claimed that China was directly supplying military assistance to Moscow, stating, “We finally have information that China is supplying weapons to the Russian Federation. We believe that Chinese representatives are engaged in the production of some weapons on the territory of Russia.”
Earlier, Zelenskyy raised concerns over foreign involvement in the war, stating that 155 Chinese citizens were fighting for Russia against Ukrainian forces. Two Chinese fighters were recently captured in Donetsk, which Ukraine described as its first official proof that Chinese nationals are actively participating in the war.
China has firmly opposed the accusations, calling them “groundless” and a form of “political manipulation.” The denial comes as tensions between China and Ukraine escalate over allegations of China’s involvement in the conflict.
