Nigeria Designates 112 as the Country’s Emergency Number.

The Nigerian government has mandated that pertinent organizations draft a comprehensive plan for implementing the 112 emergency number nationwide.

To finalize the strategy and operating procedures, the government has formed a committee comprising the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Emergency Management Agency, and other pertinent authorities.

At a meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima issued the order.

 

 

Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that resources will be supplied once the initiative begins operations and stated that the group must make significant progress in order for the effort to matter.

 

In the event of a fire, accident, medical emergency, or security issue, residents will only need to dial one toll-free number.

 

According to Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, the Nigeria Police Force is entirely in favor of making 112 the country’s single emergency number.

According to Olatunji Disu, providing individuals with an easy and dependable means of obtaining emergency assistance is a crucial step from an operational perspective.

He clarified that one number should address the issue of people not knowing which agency to contact in the event of an attack, accident, fire, medical emergency, or kidnapping.
