A tense situation developed at the Federal Ministry of Education when disgruntled staff congregated at the main entrance, keeping high-ranking officials from going in.

Video captured the moment the employees, gathered near the entry point, shouting “Alausa must go!” just as the minister’s motorcade came onto the property. Those demonstrating managed to bar the officials’ entry into the building.

The current demonstration stems from an existing disagreement between government workers and the Federal Government. This conflict revolves around the proposed transfer of King’s College, Lagos, to its association of former students, as well as several other issues brought forward by labour organisations.

Previously, these unions had demanded the minister’s removal and voiced opposition to the reported 35-year concession of the college.

Employees have also expressed apprehensions regarding their welfare and various administrative difficulties encountered within the ministry.

This most recent protest suggests that despite recent discussions between both sides, the strained relationship between ministry management and its workforce continues to be unresolved.
