Messi is Expected to Become the Owner of a Football Club in Spain.
Messi has indeed reached an initial pact to gain control of Eldense, a Spanish second-division club.
Football icon Lionel Messi reportedly nears a major off-field shift, having provisionally agreed to acquire Spanish second-tier team Eldense.
The arrangement, however, still needs final vetting and endorsement from Spain’s National Sports Council. Eldense currently belongs to the Colombian investment group, Grupo TH, which also possesses clubs in Colombia and Switzerland.
Upon completion, Eldense becomes Messi’s second club in Spain.
He bought the Spanish club Cornella in April 2026. This Barcelona club plays in the fifth tier, known for developing talent like Arsenal’s David Raya and Messi’s old Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba.
Eldense, however, would be Messi’s first professional club investment in Spain, given Cornella’s semi-professional status. The 39-year-old Lionel Messi also partly owns Uruguayan club Deportivo LSM with his Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez.
This season, Eldense has not managed to secure a victory in any of its four games played, a poor run of form that led to the firing of coach Claudio Barragán not long ago this week. At present, the club is currently operating without a manager.
