ADC Chairman David Mark Denies Endorsing Peter Obi or Atiku for 2027 Elections
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially distanced itself from claims suggesting the party has endorsed any presidential aspirant ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
In a firm statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, the party’s interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, clarified that the ADC is not in alliance with any political figure— including Peter Obi of the Labour Party or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“We have not settled on any candidate, nor do we support any political figure at this time,” Mark declared.
Senator Mark, a former Senate President, emphasized that the ADC’s immediate focus is on building a strong political platform capable of offering Nigerians a genuine and credible alternative in the upcoming elections.
“Our mission is to create a movement that appeals to the majority of Nigerians. We don’t want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If we fail to rise up now, we may all go down with it,” he warned.

Addressing Internal Allegations
Mark also addressed allegations from ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, who accused the current leadership of secretly backing Atiku Abubakar. He dismissed the claims, stating:
“I don’t own this party more than any of our members. All Nigerians must come together and take ownership of the ADC.”
On a related note, Bayo Onanuga, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, alleged on social media that certain political actors are plotting to unseat the President before the 2027 elections. He praised the Tinubu administration as one of the most “focused and transformative” in the country’s history, cautioning that enemies of progress are working behind the scenes.
He also referenced a 2022 quote from Emir Sanusi:
“If anybody tells you reform will be easy, don’t vote for him.”
