The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has demanded that the National Assembly initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bola Tinubu.
The call comes after Tinubu’s recent declaration that Gilbert Chagoury, the contractor handling the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, was his partner during the project’s inauguration.
Afenifere’s leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, expressed disappointment over Tinubu’s admission, stating that it constitutes a clear conflict of interest.
Olaitan questioned the rationale behind commissioning only a small portion of the highway, suggesting that the government might abandon the rest of the project once the section leading to Atlantic City is completed. “All President Tinubu is doing is building a road to his own Atlantic City,” Olaitan said.

The House of Representatives has already ordered an investigation into the procurement process and award of the contract.
Hon. Dr. Austin Achado noted that the Ministry of Works executed the contract without competitive bidding, violating the Infrastructure Concession and Regulatory Commission Act 2005.
