Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio for allegedly ordering the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Abbo contrasted this with Akpabio’s own past behavior, recalling a verbal altercation between Akpabio and former Senate President Bukola Saraki in the 8th Senate.

Abbo noted that despite the altercation, Akpabio was not suspended. He stated, “In Natasha’s case, Akpabio acted like an emperor and ordered her suspension for six months.” Abbo’s comments suggest that Akpabio applied double standards in handling the two situations.

Abbo also reflected on his own experience, revisiting his ousting from the Senate. He described the decision as “judicial banditry” and alleged that the judge who ruled against him knew the decision was unjust. Abbo further criticized the National Judicial Council (NJC) for its inability to discipline appellate-level judges.

The controversy surrounding Akpabio’s leadership and the suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan has sparked debate about the Senate’s handling of disciplinary matters. Abbo’s comments add to the growing scrutiny of Akpabio’s actions as Senate President.
