Alleged CBEX Promoter Abiodun Surrenders to EFCC After Being Declared Wanted
Adefowora Abiodun, a suspected promoter of the cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being declared wanted by the agency.
Abiodun, along with five others, was declared wanted for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme valued at over $1 billion.
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja had approved the EFCC’s request to arrest and detain the six promoters of CBEX, pending the conclusion of investigations and potential prosecution.
However, Abiodun, accompanied by his lawyers, turned himself in at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, expressing his willingness to cooperate with the agency.
As Abiodun’s counsel, Babatunde Busari, noted, “My client decided to submit himself for investigation to clear his name and correct the narrative being widely circulated in the media.”
The EFCC had declared Abiodun and five others wanted for their alleged roles in the CBEX scheme, which crashed, wiping out the life savings of thousands of Nigerians. Victims of the scheme have been sharing their stories, with one woman, Pretty Nikky Babe, tearfully saying, “CBEX don my savings,” capturing the emotional collapse many are experiencing.
Another victim, Bola, lamented, “Me 200 dollars, but I collected all my friends money, all the money 1,000 dollars… All my life savings, after working in Libya.”
Oguonu Nchedo Esther also shared her grief, saying, “To everyone here…pls don’t cry too much, God will see us through…my kids are just crying as if someone died…all the hopes I gave them are just scattered…we are back to zero…lost $1000…is not the end of life…”
