The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, to apologize to Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his comments on Akpabio’s trip to Rome for Pope Francis‘ burial.
In a viral video, VeryDarkMan criticized Akpabio’s trip, saying the Senate President should have been paying condolence visits to states affected by violence instead. The APC’s South-South Zonal chapter condemned VeryDarkMan’s comments, describing them as “disparaging” and “unwarranted”.
In a statement signed by the Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, the APC said VeryDarkMan’s comments were “blackmail, slander, and character assassination” and demanded an apology within one week. The party also defended Akpabio’s trip, saying he was duly nominated by the President to lead a delegation to represent Nigeria.

The APC added that President Tinubu is committed to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians, citing the President’s meeting with security chiefs upon his return from abroad. The party believes the complex security problems in the country cannot be solved overnight.

Akpabio led a high-level Nigerian delegation to attend the Pope’s funeral, comprising five members, including government officials and prominent clergy. The delegation was tasked with delivering a letter conveying President Tinubu’s sympathy and condolences to the Vatican.
