Groups Call on Nigerians to Join June 12 Protests Against Economic Hardship
Two prominent groups, Mekunnu Koya and the Federal Workers Forum, have called on Nigerians to join nationwide protests scheduled for June 12 to demand better governance and accountability.
The groups cited record levels of poverty, corruption, and government ineptitude as reasons for the protests.
Reasons for the Protests
Skyrocketing Food Prices: The groups lamented that food prices have skyrocketed, making it difficult for people to afford basic needs.
Insecurity: Insecurity of lives and property has become the new norm, with the government showing gross ineptitude and a lackadaisical attitude in their interventions.
- Government Policies: The groups condemned the policies of the Tinubu administration, asserting that they have deepened economic hardship and suffering.
- The groups called on Nigerians to push back against what they termed a neo-fascist style of governance and to reclaim their democratic rights.
They emphasized that every onlooker is either a coward or a traitor and urged Nigerians to join hands to end the unprecedented poverty caused by a thieving few in the corridors of power.
The groups concluded their statement with a message of hope, saying, “Dare to struggle, dare to win! We must mobilise for a protracted struggle in the coming days, weeks, and months.”
They called on Nigerians to organise themselves in their neighbourhoods, streets, offices, and campuses to demand better governance and accountability.
