In Niger State, Police recover a purported unexploded military ordnance device (photos)
A purported military unexploded device discovered in the Mashegu Local Government Area has been retrieved by the Niger State Police Command.
The PPRO reported that some neighborhood members had seen what appeared to be a missile in one of the nearby forests.
In a statement released on Tuesday, January 6, the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the recovery came after receiving a complaint on Monday from the divisional police officer, Ibbi Division, Mashegu.

According to the PPRO, police officers from the division quickly arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area to protect the locals.
According to the statement ;
“Following the report received from DPO Ibbi Division Mashegu LGA on 5th January, 2026 at about 2pm,
Which indicated that some locals in Zugurma community in Mashegu LGA sighted an object suspected to be a missile in the forest. The Police operatives of the Division moved to the scene and cordoned the area for safety,”
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips directed the EOD-CBRN unit of the Command to the scene, and on 6th January, 2026 at about 6am, the EOD team led by CSP Mohammed Mamun mobilised to the location, where the Police operatives of the Division and the community members led the team to the scene.
“The EOD team rendered the device safe and recovered it to custody, before its onward movement to the State Police Headquarters, Minna. The device was identified as UXO missile or military unexploded ordinance which its source is yet unknown.
“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command urged members of the public to remain calm as all security agencies are working assiduously and making efforts to ensure that normalcy is restored in the identified areas of concern.”
