In Kogi State University, Anyigba, a senior lecturer, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, reportedly died during an alleged sexual encounter with a 22-year-old 200-level student.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the tragic event occurred on Tuesday, July 15, in a hotel located in the Anyigba area of Kogi State. Dr. Ibikunle, a married man and father, was a prominent figure in the university, known for his strict academic standards—though reportedly also accused by some students of engaging in unethical relationships in exchange for grades.
Sources indicate that Dr. Ibikunle checked into the hotel with a female student identified as Gloria Samuel, a second-year student studying Social Studies Education.
In preparation for the encounter, the lecturer allegedly consumed several energy drinks.
During their time together, Dr. Ibikunle collapsed unexpectedly. Gloria reportedly rushed to the hotel reception in distress, alerting the management that the lecturer had slumped following their sexual activity.
The hotel manager, Moses Friday, quickly informed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Anyigba. Emergency services arrived, and Dr. Ibikunle was transported to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The incident was formally reported to the police on July 16, and the student involved was immediately taken into custody for questioning. She has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a statement to Sahara Reporters, SP William Ovye Aya, spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, confirmed the events:
“It was the manager of the hotel who came to the station and reported the incident. The girl told them the lecturer slumped after they had sex. The DPO went to the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.”
An autopsy has been conducted to determine the official cause of death. As of now, the results have not been made public.
No official statement has been released by Kogi State University as of the time of this report.
