Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has accused the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, of abusing his office in the allocation of land in Abuja.

In a recent interview with Arise TV, Kingibe claimed she has documented evidence showing that Wike unilaterally reduced a ₦200 million land fee—meant to be paid by his son—to just ₦2 million.

According to the senator, this massive fee reduction happened within 48 hours and involved land allocated to Wike’s son. She described the action as “unethical” and “unfair.”

“I have documents to show that Minister Wike allocated huge tracts of land to his son. When a ₦200 million bill was issued, a request was made to waive it—and it was slashed to ₦2 million. This happened within 48 hours,” Kingibe revealed.

She vowed to take the matter further, saying she plans to submit the evidence to oversight authorities, including relevant legislative bodies, and demand accountability from the presidency, from which Wike derives his powers.

Beyond the land deal, Kingibe accused the minister of ruling the FCT with impunity, ignoring the rule of law, and operating in an autocratic manner.

She also criticized his reinstatement of defunct agencies without National Assembly approval and raised alarms over the revocation of lands previously allocated to the University of Abuja.

The University had about 11,000 hectares. Wike has revoked 7,000 and left them with just 4,000. Taking land from institutions to give to individuals goes against the Land Use Act,” she stated.

Senator Kingibe also pointed to social and environmental consequences under Wike’s administration. She condemned the mass dismissal of indigent women employed as street sweepers, noting that the capital has become visibly untidy due to a lack of replacements or alternative systems.

“Every minister met the streets being cleaned by indigent women. Wike comes in and fires them all—without replacing them. Now Abuja is looking dirty,” she said.

In addition, Kingibe accused the minister of harassing FCT residents and even diplomatic missions over ground rent issues.

These allegations come alongside an investigative report by The Peoples Gazette, which claimed that Wike allocated over 2,000 hectares of premium Abuja land—worth an estimated $3.6 billion—to his son, Joaquin Wike.

The report alleges that Wike bypassed proper procedures and neglected critical fee payments to execute these transactions, covering valuable districts such as Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, Bwari, and Gaduwa.

“I will take those documents and present them to the appropriate bodies. This kind of governance can’t continue unchecked,” she concluded.
