The Enugu State government has applauded the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for the arrest of Obi Levi Obieze, a native doctor and suspected ritualist who had been on the run for kidnapping and ritual killings.

Following his arrest, the government demolished his mansions in his hometown of Umumba Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area.

Obieze was arrested at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee Nigeria on a motorcycle.

The suspect had been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl and multiple ritual killings.

The police had rescued a teenage girl abducted while walking to the farm with her father.

She was found in a shrine believed to be operated by Obieze, where two decomposing bodies were discovered hidden in a pit sealed with concrete. Three suspects linked to the abduction were earlier apprehended by the Enugu State Police Command.

The Enugu State government demolished Obieze’s properties on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in line with Section 315 (Second Amendment) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 30, Laws of Enugu State, regarding property linked to kidnapping.

The government emphasized that it would not tolerate any form of criminal activity in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, stated that the administration would not condone any form of criminality in the communities.
