Nigerian Police IG Egbetokun Orders Aide-De-Camps to Governors to Not Exceed DSP Rank

The Nigerian Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered that all officers assigned as Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to Executive Governors must not hold a rank higher than Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

This directive, outlined in a Police Wireless Message dated March 10, 2025, is to be implemented immediately and applies to all police departments, units, and commands.

The message emphasizes the importance of strict compliance, citing concerns that ADCs assigned to governors have continued to hold their positions even after being promoted beyond the designated rank.

The role of an Aide-De-Camp (ADC) is to serve as a personal assistant and security detail to high-ranking officials, including state governors.

However, the promotion of ADCs beyond the DSP rank has raised concerns about favoritism, excessive influence of governors over police operations, and the potential undermining of discipline within the force.

By restricting ADC postings to officers of the DSP rank or lower, the police authorities aim to prevent these issues and maintain operational discipline.

This move is seen as a step towards promoting transparency and accountability within the Nigerian Police Force.
