NNPP Slams Kwankwaso: “He Betrayed Us — APC Can Have Him”
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has publicly disowned its former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that his rumored defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would be a “huge relief.”
NNPP National Secretary, Mr. Oginni Olaposi, made this known on Sunday in Lagos while addressing the political implications of APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s recent resignation.
Kwankwaso’s Alleged Betrayal
“Kwankwaso betrayed the party,” Olaposi said bluntly, accusing the former Kano State governor of attempting to hijack the NNPP after securing its 2023 presidential ticket.
He further alleged that Kwankwaso’s actions dragged the party into unnecessary litigations and controversies, including the controversial replacement of the party’s official logo with the emblem of his personal political movement, the Kwankwasiya Movement.
“Thankfully, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has now restored the original NNPP logo,” Olaposi added.
APC Rumors and Ganduje’s Resignation
Olaposi linked Ganduje’s sudden resignation, officially attributed to health concerns, to potential political maneuvering that could see Kwankwaso defect to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We have reasons to doubt the propaganda that Ganduje stepped down purely for health reasons. There may be a calculated plan to bring Kwankwaso into the APC fold,” he suggested.
He also referenced Ganduje’s past statements, where the former APC chairman welcomed the idea of defectors returning to the party, suggesting a path could be open for Kwankwaso.
Olaposi made it clear that the NNPP is eager to move forward without Kwankwaso, emphasizing the party’s desire to reclaim its founding principles under Dr. Boniface Aniebonam.
“Kwankwaso is still claiming to be a member of the party despite being expelled for anti-party activities. If he truly joins the APC, it will be a relief for all of us,” Olaposi concluded.
