Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, has unleashed a verbal onslaught on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, questioning her credibility and personal life.

This comes after Akpoti-Uduaghan submitted an affidavit to the Senate Ethics Committee, accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, abuse of office, and obstruction of legislative duties.

Nwaebonyi dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims, saying “it’s high time we come hard on her.”

He referenced a past accusation she made against former presidential aide Reno Omokri, implying that the allegations were baseless since Omokri was not in Nigeria at the time.

Nwaebonyi’s criticism went beyond defending Akpabio, stating that he aimed to safeguard “future victims” of such alleged conduct.

The situation escalated further when Nwaebonyi questioned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s marital history, seemingly using it to shame her. His remarks sparked outrage, with many condemning his verbal attack on Akpoti-Uduaghan.

This development comes on the heels of a heated exchange between Nwaebonyi and former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili during a Senate Committee hearing on Tuesday. The altercation, described as a “show of shame,” saw Nwaebonyi hurling derogatory remarks at Ezekwesili, referring to her as an “insult to womanhood” and a “hooligan”.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has since apologized to Ezekwesili for Nwaebonyi’s behavior, commending her for her courage and integrity.
