Sowore Slams Tinubu’s Administration for Human Rights Abuses, ‘Worse Than Military Era’

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for perpetrating human rights abuses worse than those committed during Nigeria’s military era.

Sowore specifically criticized the jailing of children who participated in the #EndBadGovernance protests and individuals who spoke out against government officials.

According to Sowore, the current government has no respect for the rule of law and fundamental human rights.

He noted that even the military did not jail children during their era. Sowore also lambasted the Tinubu government’s “Renewed Hope” slogan, saying it has brought only hopelessness to Nigerians.

Sowore’s comments echo those of Prof. Usman Yusuf, a member of the Northern Elders Forum, who also criticized the Tinubu administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. Yusuf argued that the administration’s policies have led to increased poverty, destitution, and hopelessness among Nigerians.

Amnesty International has also accused President Tinubu’s administration of failing to uphold human rights and the rule of law, six months after being sworn in.

The organization noted that Nigeria has suffered decades of human rights violations and abuses, perpetrated by both state and non-state actors.
