Spain Crush Belgium 6-2 to Close in on Women’s Euro 2025 Quarter-Finals
Spain Women continued their electrifying form at Euro 2025 with a dominant 6-2 victory over Belgium, putting one foot firmly in the quarter-finals.
With five different players on the scoresheet and 33 shots on goal, La Roja proved why they’re the reigning world champions and tournament favorites.
Fresh off a 5-0 demolition of Portugal in their opener, Spain once again showcased their attacking firepower. Alexia Putellas led the way with a brace (22’, 86’), joined by Irene Paredes (39’), Esther Gonzalez (52’), Mariona Caldentey (61’), and Claudia Pina (81’).
Despite the emphatic scoreline, Belgium made it interesting in patches. Justine Vanhaevermaet equalized from a corner just two minutes after Putellas’ opener, and Hannah Eurlings briefly put Belgium ahead early in the second half with a goal confirmed by semi-automated offside technology.

But Spain’s response was ruthless. Within two minutes of Eurlings’ goal, Esther Gonzalez finished coolly after a stylish setup from Putellas. Caldentey and Pina then added to the tally before Putellas sealed the result with her second.
Goalscorers (Spain): Putellas (2), Paredes, Gonzalez, Caldentey, Pina
Goalscorers (Belgium): Vanhaevermaet, Eurlings
If Portugal fails to beat Italy in the evening match, Spain’s place in the last eight will be mathematically secured. Belgium, meanwhile, must now rely on a Portugal win to stay alive in Group B.
Analysis: The Most Dangerous Attack in Europe?
With 11 goals in two games and eight different scorers, Spain have rewritten their own European Championship records. Putellas, now fully back to her best, pulled the strings in midfield, while Gonzalez has three goals in two matches. Vicky Lopez, just 18, impressed again with a lively first half.
Defensive lapses at set-pieces gave Belgium brief hope, but overall, this was another statement win. Spain look nearly unstoppable—and with this depth of talent, it may take something extraordinary to knock them off course.
