President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to immediately end the violence and killings in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states.
The President also ordered a comprehensive overhaul of national security operations during a meeting with the NSA and service chiefs at the State House in Abuja.
Tinubu stressed the urgent need to end the “senseless killings” of innocent Nigerians, declaring “enough is enough” against the persistent violence and insecurity plaguing several regions. The President reiterated his commitment to restoring peace across the nation, particularly in states most affected by attacks and instability.
The NSA confirmed that Tinubu had received detailed reports from the service chiefs on the scale of destruction and death tolls in the affected areas. Ribadu disclosed that the President had instructed security leaders to visit the violence-stricken states, meet with political leaders, and assess the situation on the ground.
Tinubu emphasized the importance of involving local governments and communities in the fight against insecurity, directing that security agencies work more closely with governors and local authorities. The meeting included representatives from the armed forces, the police, and the intelligence community, who discussed the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and the need to secure ungoverned areas.
The President’s directive comes as a response to the growing concern over the security situation in Nigeria, with many calling for increased efforts to protect citizens and restore peace.
