US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, giving the country a maximum of two weeks to “come to its senses” and avert potential US airstrikes.
The ultimatum comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with Trump emphasizing that the clock is ticking for Iranian leaders.
Speaking to reporters, Trump stated, “I’m giving them a period of time, and I would say two weeks would be the maximum.” He added that the goal is to see whether Iranian leaders can “come to their senses”.
The US president hinted that a decision on military action could come even earlier than the two-week timeframe.
Trump’s comments cast doubt on the effectiveness of ongoing diplomatic efforts, particularly those led by European countries.
He dismissed a recent meeting between Iran’s Foreign Minister and representatives from Britain, France, Germany, and the EU in Geneva, indicating little faith in European-led peace initiatives.
Donald also expressed support for Israel’s continued military campaign against Iran, stating, “I’m not inclined to stop Israel. They’re winning.” The president’s tone suggests he is leaning toward military action if Iran fails to show progress, particularly regarding its nuclear activities.
