13 Vigilantes Killed in Brutal Attack by Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists in Kebbi Village
An attack on Sunday left at least 13 vigilantes dead in Morai village, located in the Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, which occurred around three kilometers from a nearby village, was carried out by suspected Lakurawa gunmen.
According to local sources, the vigilantes had taken cover in nearby bushes after receiving intelligence about a possible attack.
When the attackers arrived and attempted to rustle a herd of cattle, the vigilantes launched an ambush to recover the stolen cattle and repel the assailants.
However, the terrorists had already encircled the vigilantes, and as they engaged, the attackers opened fire, killing at least 13 of them instantly.
Six bodies have been recovered and laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites, while the search for the remaining victims continues.
According to a community member, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, Nafiu Abubakar, were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages went unanswered. The attack highlights the need for increased security measures to protect local communities from terrorist activities.
