Manchester City Agree to Sign 18-Year-Old Norwegian Midfielder Sverre Nypan
Manchester City has agreed to a £12.5 million deal to sign Sverre Nypan, a highly rated 18-year-old midfielder from Norwegian side Rosenborg.
Sverre, who has represented his country at youth levels up to and including under-21s, is expected to join City on a long-term contract until June 2030.
Why Nypan is Exciting for Manchester City Fans
Nypan has been making waves in Norway, winning the top-tier Eliteserien Young Player of the Year award in both 2023 and 2024.
The teenager has already made a significant impact in Norway, scoring 14 goals and contributing 11 assists in 70 appearances for Rosenborg.
His versatility on the field is impressive, capable of playing as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger, or even center-forward.
Comparison to Martin Odegaard

Nypan’s playing style has drawn comparisons to fellow Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard, who also made his debut in the Norwegian top flight at 15.
While both players share technical skills and passing abilities, Nypan is seen as more of a box-to-box midfielder, controlling the game from midfield.
After the deal is completed, Nypan will likely go on a season-long loan to gain more experience. Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has a history of nurturing young talent, and Nypan could be in good hands.
With City’s matches in the Club World Cup upcoming, Nypan might make his debut if the team progresses to the knockout stage.
Andreas Korssund, a Norwegian journalist, believes Nypan has the potential to become one of Europe’s best midfielders.
He praises Nypan’s ability to control the game and his potential for growth. While it may take time for Nypan to adjust to the Premier League, Korssund has no doubt that City has secured one of the world’s best upcoming midfielders.
