A 25-year-old Nigerian woman, Ifeoluwa Akinwunmi, has been arrested in India for alleged drug trafficking.
Akinwunmi, who claimed to be a hairstylist and nail artist, was caught with 5.325 kilograms of MDMA crystals worth approximately N1.8 billion.
Akinwunmi was apprehended by the Anti-Narcotics Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru’s Tarahunase village on June 10, 2025.
The CCB acted on a tip-off and intercepted her as she arrived from Delhi with a suspicious bag containing the illicit substances and 11 new churidar outfits.
During questioning, Akinwunmi claimed she didn’t know what was inside the bag and said a friend in Delhi had asked her to deliver it to a man wearing a black hat.
She also stated she had come to Bengaluru to open a beauty salon, contradicting her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Records show Akinwunmi entered India on a business visa in October 2021 and later obtained a student visa for a university in Telangana, which she never attended. Her visa expired in 2022, and she has been overstaying illegally since then.
Akinwunmi has been handed over to the jurisdictional Chikkajala police station for further legal action. The police are investigating her boyfriend in Delhi, who is believed to be involved in the drug trafficking operation.
