Social commentator Isaac Fayose has reacted with excitement to the news of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging Peter Obi to return to the party now that, in his words, “baba don go.”

Atiku officially announced his resignation from the PDP on Wednesday, marking his third departure from the party in two decades. Fayose, known for his outspoken political takes, didn’t hold back as he celebrated the move, calling it a long-overdue exit.

Speaking in a video shared online, Fayose said he had been trying to see Atiku removed from the PDP for years, but the former vice president always found his way back.

According to him, Atiku’s constant back-and-forth within the party has caused more harm than good, stalling progress and dividing members.

“Good news! Atiku has finally resigned from PDP. I’ve been trying to suspend him for years, e nor go. Finally, baba don go. Third time in 20 years. This is what they call desperation,” he said. “Atiku’s ambition has grounded the party for too long. I don’t know whether he forgot something in the villa. In and out of PDP, three times in 20 years. What a shame!”

Fayose believes Atiku’s departure creates space for true opposition leadership and gives the PDP a chance to reset. He noted that without Atiku in the mix, the South will no longer have to compete for its place in the party’s presidential plans.

“For PDP, the biggest party in Africa, it is a welcome development. The Southerners will not have someone dragging their slot with them. It is good news—the party will have peace now,” he said.

With the path seemingly clearer, Fayose called on Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to consider returning to PDP and reposition himself for the next election cycle. According to him, the PDP’s wide national reach still makes it a strong platform for Obi, and this is the right time to make a move.

“I hope Obi can come back to PDP now because they’ve got a lot of spread. I hope Obi can come back now!” he said.
