Chelsea Football Club has officially confirmed the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap in a £30 million deal. The 22-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the Blues, providing competition for first-choice striker Nicolas Jackson.

Delap’s impressive performance in the Premier League last season, scoring 12 goals for Ipswich Town despite the team’s relegation, caught Chelsea’s attention. The Blues identified him as the ideal candidate to add support and competition to their squad.

According to reports, Delap was drawn to Chelsea’s style of play under Enzo Maresca, the quality of the squad, and the club’s ambition to compete for major honors.

“I’m excited to join Chelsea and help the club win more trophies,” Delap said. “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it’s on with these players and the head coach. It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here.”

The striker began his career at Derby County’s academy before moving to Manchester City in 2019. Although his first-team opportunities were limited at City, he showed promise with 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 appearances. Delap’s move to Ipswich Town last summer proved fruitful, with 12 Premier League goals, despite the team’s relegation.

Delap’s Chelsea debut could come at the Club World Cup, where the Blues are set to face Los Angeles FC, Flamengo, and ES Tunis in Group D.

With Chelsea’s busy summer transfer window ahead, Delap’s signing is just the beginning of the club’s efforts to strengthen their squad.
