FCT Police Arrest Mother After Her 3-Year-Old Child Drowns in Water Container
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a 3-year-old child tragically drowned while attempting to fetch water from a mini water container.
The FCT Police Command has arrested the mother, who is now facing charges of negligence.
According to preliminary investigations, the mother had left her 3-year-old child at home with a 10-year-old sibling. The young child’s attempt to fetch water ended in disaster, as they fell into the container and drowned.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for a thorough investigation. The matter will subsequently be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
In a statement, CP Disu emphasized the importance of proper adult supervision, stating that children should never be left alone without it.
He urged parents and guardians to take full responsibility for the safety and well-being of their children, as negligence can lead to preventable and unfortunate incidents.
