Itiako Ikpokpo, the former Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ikpokpo, also known as ‘Malik’, cited President Bola Tinubu’s impressive performance as the reason for his defection.

Ikpokpo had been a dedicated member of the PDP for 27 years, actively participating in local, state, and federal activities.

However, tensions arose before the 2023 general elections due to the party’s alleged “second-class treatment” of its members.

Trouble started for Ikpokpo when he openly declared support for the APC’s governorship candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, in the 2023 election.

This move led to his resignation from the PDP, which he submitted in a letter to the Irri ward 11 Chairman of PDP, Samson Afeme.

In the letter, Ikpokpo praised President Tinubu’s courageous efforts to reengineer the nation’s trajectory, stating that Nigeria is “without a doubt on the path of recovery” under his leadership.
