Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu urged the Secretary to the State Government to establish a committee to evaluate the extent, root causes, and security implications of street begging. The committee would propose practical solutions to mitigate the growing menace.
The Assembly also suggested forming a community-based task force to identify beggars, facilitate their reintegration into society, and report recurring cases. Members expressed concerns that unchecked street begging disrupts public order and puts vulnerable individuals at risk of exploitation and abuse.
Additionally, the House conducted the first reading of a bill seeking to amend the state’s Secret Cults and Secret Societies Prohibition Law, introducing stiffer penalties for offenders to enhance public safety.
