The Federal Government of Nigeria has made a generous donation of N30 million to the family of the late Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of the Nigerian flag.

This gesture is a token of appreciation for Akinkunmi’s contributions to the country.

Akinkunmi passed away on August 30, 2023, at the age of 87, after a brief illness. His burial took place on September 6, 2024, a year after his demise, following a prolonged wait for the state burial promised by the Federal Government.

The donation was presented to Akinkunmi’s family by Lanre Issa-Onilu, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), and Olukemi Afolayan, the Oyo State Director of the agency.

Issa-Onilu emphasized that the donation was not intended to compensate for Akinkunmi’s services but rather to support his family and acknowledge his lasting impact on the country.

Akinwunmi Akinkunmi, one of the deceased sons, expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Tinubu for the gesture.
