WhatsApp Introduces New Feature: Reserve Your Username and Secure Your Phone Number.
WhatsApp revealed usernames, a much-anticipated feature that would let users publish their profiles without revealing their phone number.
Nevertheless, to register for an account on the chat app, WhatsApp will still need a phone number.
The Meta-owned startup will allow users to reserve usernames with an official launch. Users are free to select any username between three and thirty-five characters.
According to the corporation, top celebrities, VIPs, and organizations are the only ones who can use usernames. Aside from that, selecting a username is unrestricted as long as it doesn’t go against the company’s standards.
According to Meta, companies and creators can use their Facebook or Instagram username as their WhatsApp username if they wish to keep consistency.
When the username reservation option becomes available in their country, users will be notified. They can then select their username by going to Settings > Account > Username. Additionally, WhatsApp will allow users to set a username key that other users must know in order to message them.

According to Meta, the reservation process is in place to prevent duplication for its more than 3 billion users. According to the firm, only those who know your specific username will be able to get in touch with you, and usernames will not be searchable on the app. Additionally, you may always alter your username or disable the feature.
Sharing your phone number can seem like a big step when you meet someone new, be it a neighbour, a student, or someone you met at an event. Your phone number is private.
Users will currently have to text or speak their username. If you don’t know someone’s phone number, you can’t contact them by scanning their QR code.
