Sources close to the matter have revealed that suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after a secret deal with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This development is reportedly part of a larger strategy by the APC-led Federal Government to weaken opposition strongholds ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The alleged deal comes after months of intense political pressure, institutional intimidation, and strategic coercion against Fubara, who has been locked in a bitter power struggle with his political godfather and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Sources claim that Wike, with the backing of the Presidency, spearheaded a relentless campaign to bring Fubara to his knees.
According to insiders, the turning point came during a secret meeting between Fubara and Tinubu in London, known as the “2025 London Peace Accord.” During this meeting, Fubara allegedly agreed to join the APC in exchange for political survival.
As part of the terms, Fubara would be reinstated as governor, but with control of Rivers State’s resources closely monitored by the ruling party’s power brokers.
Many Nigerians are disillusioned by this abrupt political U-turn, with some sources describing Fubara’s situation as “humiliation, torment, and political crushing.” Critics argue that the Tinubu administration is using federal power to suppress dissent and consolidate control over opposition strongholds ahead of the 2027 general elections.
