The Nigerian military has confirmed the death of Alhaji Shaudo Alku, a key ally of notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, in a precision airstrike carried out in Sokoto State.
The operation was conducted by the Air Component of Operation Fagge Yama near Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
According to the military, Alku was killed along with several fighters and yet-to-be-identified field commanders. The airstrike was based on strong intelligence gathered from surveillance and precise data, which helped locate the terrorist gathering spot.
Alku was a significant figure in Turji’s network, responsible for coordinating logistics, arms procurement, and cross-border operations. His death is seen as a major disruption to terrorist operations in the region.
The military operation is part of the ongoing campaign to dismantle the command structure of violent extremist groups in the region. The government has repeatedly vowed to capture Bello Turji, who has been responsible for numerous massacres and terrorist attacks against civilians and security forces.
Further details on the operation are expected as the situation develops. The military’s efforts to disrupt terrorist networks in north-western Nigeria have been ongoing, with this latest operation seen as a significant step towards achieving that goal.
