Morocco Vows to Block Nigeria’s Record-Breaking WAFCON Bid
As the WAFCON 2025 final approaches, Morocco’s head coach Jorge Vilda has made it clear: his team is ready to give everything to stop Nigeria’s Super Falcons from clinching a historic 10th continental title.
A win for Nigeria would make them the most successful national team in women’s football history, surpassing the nine-title record currently shared with China and the United States.
The Super Falcons earned their place in the final with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over reigning champions South Africa. Meanwhile, host nation Morocco edged past Ghana in a dramatic penalty shootout to reach the final in front of their home supporters.
At a pre-match press conference, Vilda praised Nigeria’s strength and depth.
“Nigeria has a very high level. They are physically strong and technically diverse, with players who have experience at the highest levels,” he said.
Still, the Spanish tactician believes the Atlas Lionesses are ready to rise to the occasion.
“We play at home. We play with our fans. Our players are full of desire and enthusiasm to make history,” he added. “This is a final. We are here to win.”
Morocco is chasing its first-ever WAFCON title, and with home advantage and national pride on the line, they’ll be looking to derail Nigeria’s “Mission X” and carve out their own place in African football history.
Will the Super Falcons make history, or can Morocco stop them in their tracks?
The WAFCON 2025 final promises fireworks.
