Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has made a shocking allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of sexual harassment.

In an interview with ARISE TV, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that Akpabio made unwanted advances towards her, which she rejected, and is now facing retaliation.

According to Akpoti-Uduaghan, the incident occurred on December 8, 2023, when she and her husband visited Akpabio’s home in Akwa Ibom to celebrate his birthday.

Akpabio allegedly held her hands, showed her around his house, and suggested spending “special moments” together. Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she pulled away, unsure of his intentions.

The senator also alleged that Akpabio later made explicit comments, saying, “You can enjoy a whole lot if you take care of me. Make me happy.” Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that she has substantial evidence, including WhatsApp messages and witness testimony from her husband.

This allegation has sparked controversy in the Nigerian Senate, with Akpoti-Uduaghan facing disciplinary action.

The Senate has referred her to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for review. Akpabio has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.

This is not the first time Akpabio has faced allegations of misconduct. In 2020, Joy Nunieh, former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, claiming she slapped him after he made unwanted advances.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a N100.3 billion fundamental human rights lawsuit against Akpabio, alleging defamation and harassment.
