Omoyele Sowore Regains Freedom After Two-Day Detention
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been released from Nigerian police custody after spending two days in detention.
Sowore confirmed his freedom on Friday evening through a social media statement, expressing appreciation to supporters and legal advocates who stood by him throughout the ordeal.
“The Nigeria Police Force has capitulated to the demands of the revolutionary movement. I have been released from unjust, illegal, and unwarranted detention. However, this is nothing to celebrate, but thank you for not giving up! #RevolutionNow,” he wrote.

Sowore is best known for his vocal criticism of government policies and his leadership of the #RevolutionNow movement — a campaign pushing for systemic political and economic reforms across Nigeria.
His activism has led to several prior arrests, drawing both national and international attention to issues of civic freedom and human rights in the country.
His most recent detention triggered a wave of reactions from civil society organizations, human rights defenders, and political figures, all condemning what they called an attack on free speech and democratic expression.
Following his release, Sowore extended special thanks to prominent voices who advocated for him, including human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and activist Deji Adeyanju, among others.
