The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has assured President Bola Tinubu that the Igbo ethnic group will give him more than 70% votes in the 2027 election.
This promise is seen as a way of repaying the President for his commitment to the development of Igbo land.
Kalu stated that Tinubu has fulfilled the promise of rehabilitation, reconstruction, and reconciliation made by the military regime of Yakubu Gowon, with the creation of the South East Development Commission. The Deputy Speaker made this known during a grand reception held in his honor by the Atuma Grace Movement in Abia State.
“We are promising the President, 70 to 80% of votes from Igboland. Let us continue to remain as people who love peace and unity. No other President has remembered the promise made to the Igbo people after the war like President Bola Tinubu,” Kalu said.
He also condemned the development that authorities in Abia are frustrating an interface between traditional rulers and State officials, saying it is an ill wind that blows the people no good.
Reaction to Tinubu’s Efforts
Kalu praised Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission bill into law and funding it, despite naysayers’ claims that he wouldn’t. “He loves Ndi Igbo and we Igbos remember those who love us,” he added.
The Deputy Speaker urged the authorities in Abia State to allow traditional rulers the freedom to exercise their mandate and not restrict them from welcoming those working with the President.
The host, Emeka Atuma, welcomed Kalu and stated that the All Progressives Congress is waxing stronger in Abia State.
