Peter Obi May Return to PDP for 2027 Presidential Bid — Modu Sheriff
Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, is likely to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contest for the presidency in 2027 under its banner.
Modu Sheriff made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, saying he had credible information pointing to Obi’s return to the PDP.
“Information available to me is that any moment from now, Obi would go back to the PDP and run as a presidential candidate,” Sheriff said.
Peter Obi recently aligned with other opposition figures under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), forming a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.
However, his long-term strategy and party loyalty remain subjects of speculation.

Sheriff also weighed in on the expected competition within the PDP, suggesting that both Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may vie for the party’s ticket.
He added that Atiku’s sights remain fixed solely on the presidency and questioned the political strongholds of other potential candidates like former minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu’s administration has dismissed opposition realignments, with officials mocking frequent party switchers like Nasir El-Rufai, calling them “internally displaced politicians.”
